New Clinical Study Underway: Fortetropin

FSHD Canada Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of a new clinical study investigating Fortetropin®, a muscle health supplement developed by MYOS Corporation. Fortetropin is a natural product derived from fertilized chicken egg yolks and is already available on the market. It is designed to promote muscle growth and reduce muscle loss due to aging, injury, or surgery.

In partnership with Myologica LLC, a research organization specializing in neuromuscular function and muscle phenotyping, FSHD Canada Foundation is exploring Fortetropin’s potential to improve muscle regeneration for individuals with Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy (FSHD).

Under the leadership of Dr. Ramzi Khairallah, Myologica identified Fortetropin as a promising compound after preclinical testing on FSHD mice demonstrated increased muscle size and improved endurance. Based on these encouraging results, FSHD Canada Foundation, MYOS, and Myologica have come together to launch a clinical study in FSHD patients.

I’m grateful to partner with FSHD Canada on this study. FSHD is a challenging genetic muscular disorder, and we understand the complexity and seriousness of the condition. If our product Fortetropin can contribute even modestly to improving muscle health or quality of life for individuals living with FSHD, that would be a meaningful and encouraging step forward. We’re committed to supporting the science and exploring every possibility.”

– Joseph Mannello, MYOS Corporation

About the Study

  • Participants: 23 individuals with FSHD and 6 without FSHD, located across North America, South America, and Europe.
  • Design: Majority of participants will receive Fortetropin, while ~20% will be placed on placebo. All began supplementation by August 15, 2025.
  • Duration: 6 months, with an interim analysis at 3 months. At that time, all participants will transition to Fortetropin for the remainder of the study.
  • Measurements: Efficacy will be assessed using wearable devices (primarily WHOOP), TUG (Timed Up and Go) Tests, and participant surveys.

Meanwhile, Myologica and MYOS are conducting additional research to better understand Fortetropin’s mechanisms of action and explore ways to optimize the compound.

Looking Ahead

If successful, this study could pave the way for a larger-scale clinical trial and bring new hope to those living with FSHD. Results will be shared publicly to support patient access and awareness.
